Wind energy Deutsch

Stand-alone small wind energy supplying system in rural areas
Agape international started this project in September 2007 in partnership with the Non-Conventional Energy Development Center (NCEDC), Pyongyang.

Goal:
The project aims at the construction of different size stand alone wind energy systems (300 W to 5 kW) supplying rural households in a DPRK farm as models for implementation all over the country. Local resources should be used where ever possible and combine it with modern wind technology from China and Europe.

The wind towers shall be practical, easy in maintenance, solid and cost efficient. The know-how for self-construction of small wind towers is transferred to at least 150-200 domestic specialists that are able to train others.

Strategy:
This is done by implementing the following strategy:

  • Based on an existing design for small scale wind turbines („Kukate“) a DPRK adapted version is developed.
  • Depending of available material and wind sources the design is scaled between 1 and 5 kW.
  • Model units are built in country to gain experience also in construction and availability of local resources. Parts not available in country are identified and solutions are searched to either produce them in country or to easily import them.
  • Existing know-how and information is tested and made available in Korean for wide dissemination throughout the country. Trainer-trainers and leaflets help in spreading it.
  • Expert and information exchange guarantee to find solutions adapted to the countries resources and combine it with all available know-how worldwide.

Target group:
The target group for this project are small villages or brigades with no or insufficient electrical supply. Or any village or brigade that is interested in using wind energy as alternative energy source. As a representive example for this the cooperative farm Samhun was chosen for the practical field implementation.

Expected results:

  • NCEDC can provide detailed information and training for the self-construction of small wind turbines for rural areas including appropriate site selection, design (construction plans, tutorials), needed material, availability and sources in country, material to be imported and costs.
  • Two to four wind towers have been constructed and tested under real field conditions and data about operation and maintenance over a period of 6-12 months have been collected and compiled.
  • NCEDC has trained 150-200 domestic specialists to be able to construct a wind tower and train others.
Project duration:
September 2007 to March 2009
