 The Non-conventional
Energy Development Center (NCEDC) was founded in September 1992 and belongs
to the Academy of Sciences. The mission of NCEDC is to disseminate the
renewable energy technology across the country, provide energy saving applications
and develop renewable energy projects. It has 96 members with 6
technical divisions – New Energy (wind, solar, small hydropower), Alternative
Energy, Biogas, Heat Control, Energy Techno-economics and Energy Saving.
It has a pilot factory for manu-facturing renewable energy prototypes. The center is involved in
several international wind projects. In 1998, a standalone wind-farm demonstra-tion
project was completed. The capacity per unit was 500 W to 4.5 kW totaling
11 kW. The wind farm sup-plies power to 60 households for the lighting,
TV and radio entertainment.
